Today I'd like to introduce you to a handsome young boy named Richard! Richard is ten years old, and currently lives in a foster home outside of Beijing, China. There are so many reasons Richard is special: he is kind, smart, and tons of fun! Below are just a few of the many awesome attributes of Richard you should know:
Richard is Joyful: If it were possible to sum up Richard in one word, joyful would be the word to do it. Richard brings joy to everyone he meets and everything he does. Richard is usually smiling from ear to ear, and seconds away from letting out his infectious laugh if he isn't laughing already. The type of joy Richard possesses is hard to come by, and any family would be blessed to have Richard in their lives.
Richard is Courageous: Richard has a mild cognitive disability and left side hemiplegia. This means that his left arm and leg do not function as they should. Richard is enrolled in the therapy program at his foster home and works on improving his control and functions in his left arm and leg. Despite the difficulties that come along with limited use of his left side, Richard has never allowed it to hold him back! Richard loves spending time with his best friend, Ed, who always challenges Richard to try new things. You can usually find these two boys creating new and exciting adventures. It's a rare day that Richard and Ed aren't outside after school or on the weekends running, swinging, biking, climbing, or playing their own original games with one another!

Richard is a Prankster: Richard's joy sometimes comes from pulling pranks on others. My first time working at Richard's foster home, his favorite prank to pull on me was to hide my shoes, then run up to me before I even knew they were missing, and tell me "ni meiyou xiezi!" (You have no shoes!). After informing me of the prank at hand, Richard always fell to the ground in a fit of giggles brought on by his hilarious high jinx. Since then I've heard many other similar stories of Richard pranking others, and every prank has ended with Richard telling the person he pranked them before they were even aware it was happening! He may not be an expert prankster, but he sure knows how to make others smile.
Richard Deserves a Home: Richard turned ten years old in May of 2016. Entering the double digits is exciting, he is now one of the older boys at his foster home and is becoming a big brother to his younger foster siblings. Though Richard is loved dearly by everyone at his foster home, he has experienced heartbreak lately. Richard has had to say goodbye to several of his closest friends over the past two years because they were adopted overseas. The clock is now ticking for Richard, he has a little over three years until he ages out of China's adoption system. You can help be the difference between Richard aging out and joining a family. Remember Richard in your prayers each day, spread the word on social media, and tell any friends or family members you know interested in adopting.
