Charissa!
Hello world,
It's my pleasure to introduce you the one and only Charissa! Charissa is a vibrant young girl who is currently living in a foster home outside of Beijing. She loves going to school and being rolled around outside. She can be a bit quiet when you first meet her, but she warms up very quickly! Charissa is also not shy about correcting foreigners' Chinese. The first year I met this silly little girl, we spent every afternoon teaching each other. One day when we were working on numbers, I mispronounced the Chinese word for "six." I have no idea what I said instead of six, but she would not stop laughing! Every time one of her nannies came into the room she would tell them what I said and would start laughing even harder!

Charissa was born with Spina Bifida, but thanks to the awesome physical therapists at her foster home, she’s been able to work on strengthening her muscles and increase her overall range of motion!
Charissa has been at her foster home for many years now. She has seen a lot of her friends come and go. When her best friend Noel was adopted to America in 2013, Charissa would look out the window of her home and ask whoever was in the room with her if they could go outside and look for Noel, not fully understanding that her best friend was not coming back.
(Noel and Charissa, 2012)
Charissa no longer looks out the window for Noel. She now day dreams about her family finding her and finally taking her home. She imagines receiving a book filled with the faces of her new relatives; her parents and maybe some siblings who will love her with all their hearts.
Please help make Charissa’s dream a reality by sharing her story.
If you are interested in learning more about Charissa, you can find her adoption file through Holt adoption agency, where she is listed under the name “Dara” or you can email us at [email protected]
